Tasks

The Statistical Office in Białystok is part of the public statistics services under the Central Statistical Office and operates pursuant to:

  • the Act of June 29, 1995, on Public Statistics (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1799, with later amendments),
  • Statute of SO in Białystok introduced by instruction No. 12 of the President of Statistics Poland dated August 21, 2012 (Official Journal of Statistics Poland, item 39, with later amendments),
  • Regulation on the Organisation of Statistical Office in Białystok introduced by Regulation No. 14 by the Director of Statistical Office in Białystok dated 1st July 2026,
  • other applicable laws and regulations governing Statistical Office in Białystok.

In accordance with the above documents, the Office’s tasks include:

  • collecting, compiling, storing, analyzing, and processing statistical data,
  • providing information services to the public, public administration bodies at all levels operating within the Podlaskie Voivodeship, and entities of the national economy,
  • maintaining official registers:
  • REGON - the National Official Register of Economic Entities,
  • TERYT - the National Official Register of Territorial Division,
  • promoting knowledge about statistics.

As part of its work in support of public statistics as a whole, the Office performs specialized nationwide tasks. These include:

  • in the field of environmental, natural, and forestry statistics:
    • conducting methodological work,
    • collecting, compiling, and analyzing statistical data,
    • conducting work on methodology and the preparation of environmental-economic accounts for forests,
    • preparing publications
    • cooperation with other ministries, institutions, and organizations in the area of research methodology.
  • In the field of research and analysis of the senior economy:
    • conducting methodological work aimed at carrying out statistical surveys of entities in the national economy, older adults, and local government units,
    • conducting work related to identifying and collecting data from administrative sources to describe the silver economy in Poland,
    • preparing publications and statistical reports,
    • creating and maintaining statistical databases,
    • cooperating with other ministries, institutions, and organizations in the area of research methodology.
